Baked Spicy Sweet Potato Fries

There's nothing more satisfying than tucking into a bag of potato fries! I personally love sweet potato fries the best! Just by adding in some spices, you can transform oven baked sweet potato fries into something super spicy and tasty!

The sweetness of the baked sweet potato chips work wonders with the spices cumin, paprika, coriander and chilli. Match these chips up with your favourite veggie burger and you've got a delicious meal the whole family can enjoy.

Sweet potatoes are super healthy for you, they contain the vitamin B6 which helps reduce the chemical homocysteine in our bodies. They also contain vitamin C, vitamin D and iron. I try to have a sweet potato everyday, they taste especially tasty as chips!

I've chosen to leave the unhealthy oil out when I make these sweet potato fries, you can line the sweet potatoes on baking paper and they still turn out tasty. If you still want to add in the oil, I've placed it in the recipe below.

Spicy baked sweet potato fries that are perfect with tangy tomato sauce! Seasoned with cumin, coriander and paprika. 

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon ground cumin
  • 1 tablespoon ground coriander
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon chilli powder
  • dash of sea salt and pepper
  • 1-2 tbsp coconut oil (optional)
  • 4-5 medium potatoes
  • Tomato sauce or sweet chilli to serve
  1. Preheat oven to 200°C. Line base of a large baking dish with non-stick baking paper. Combine spices in a large bowl and mix well. If you're using oil, add it to the spices and mix.
  2. Cut each sweet potato into chip size, add to bowl and toss to coat with spices.
  3. Arrange sweet potato fries in a single layer in a large baking dish. Sprinkle generously with sea salt and pepper. Bake for 15-20 minutes, then flip them with a metal spatula and place them in the oven for 10-15 minutes or until cooked. Transfer to a large serving bowl.
  4. Serve with tomato sauce or sweet chilli sauce.
